Universal of Jan III on collecting taxes from Crown Jews

As a result of supplications from Crown Jews, in particular from the Poznań and Kalisz voivodeships, King Jan III Sobieski, confirms the constitution of the Grodno diet in 1679 and his resolution and forbids tax collectors to collect from them taxes other than Jewish poll tax. In particular, they should not collect additional Jewish poll tax and two rates of (general) poll tax and twelve rates of hearth tax that were established by the Greater Poland nobility in 1679 at post-diet dietine in Środa. He obliged the Poznań and Brześć-Kujawy voivodes to provide protection to Jews and to obey the universal.
