Fragments of the voivode court record in the case of Dawid Szmelka, the land rabbi
In view of the failure to appear before the voivode court of some of the land elders, led by Marshal Haszkiel Wolfowicz from Tarnów, in the court case regarding the attempt to dismiss the land rabbi, Dawid Szmelka, and establish a new one – Józef Icek Jonowicz, the court imposes banishment on them, orders the detention of their property, and removes them from their offices. In the case of Dawid Szmelka and other land elders, who did appear on the date appointed by the voivode, the court releases them from the charges, confirms them on their offices and orders the convocation of the Jewish assembly to Pińczów to select new elders in place of the removed ones within four weeks.
