Letter by Franciszek Maksymilian Ossoliński, Treasurer of the Crown, to August Czartoryski, voivode of Rus

F.M. Ossoliński, Treasurer of the Crown, replies to the two letters by August Czartoryski, the first of which concerns the relocation of the customs office, the other the Jewish poll tax. Ossoliński clarifies that the Crown Jews hold their general assemblies every four years. At these assemblies they settle the general tariff. However, due to the Jews’ high mobility, the crown elders convene every year to define the distribution of the Jewish poll-tax for each year. Since no assembly can be convened for March, Ossoliński advises to summon them to the Radom treasury Tribunal. In the postscript, Ossoliński claims that the information obtained by the voivode that the congress in Podkamień was an assembly of the Crown Jews rather than the Jews of Rus cannot be true.
