Protest on behalf of the Jews of the Zamość Entailed Estate against the scribe of the Crown Jews and the elders of the Chełm-Bełz land

Mendel Samsonowicz, syndic of Zamość and Izaak Markowicz, Szczebrzeszyn elder, on behalf of the communities of the Zamość Entailed Estate, protest against Fiszel Lewkowicz, the general scribe of the Crown Jews and the elders of the Chełm land and the Bełz voivodeship. The latter allegedly sabotaged the command of the Crown treasurer, Hieronim Augustyn Lubomirski, delaying sending their representatives to the joint commission to conduct a review of the Jewish poll tax allocation and to solve current problems. The new grand Crown treasurer, Jan Jerzy Przebendowski, ordered the general scribe of the Crown Jews to refrain from announcing a new poll tax tariff pending the settlement of mutual disputes by the arbitral tribunal. However, Fiszel Lewkowicz, showing partiality as one of the arbitrators of the court, encouraged an unfavourable sentence for the Jews of the Zamość Entailed Estate. Therefore, disagreeing with him, they demanded he be deprived of his judicial competence and excluded from participation in the procedure of the allocation of poll tax.
