Confirmation of the consensus of the voivode of Ruthenia, August Czartoryski, for the general rabbi of Przemyśl, Michał Szmojłowicz

Court entry of the universal issued by the voivode of Ruthenia, Warsaw, on the 1st October 1732. August Czartoryski announces that, due to the elderly age and impaired vital forces of the general rabbi of Przemyśl, Szmujło Mendlowicz, in the subordinate counties, in order to prevent problems in the spiritual courts, as a new rabbi of Przemyśl of he appoints for three years Michał (Michla) Szmujłowicz, his son, who has been recommended and is an expert Hebrew scholar and has good manners. He will possess similar power as his father earlier and, granted in 1732, it encompasses jurisdiction over Jews and keeping order among them. He gives his support to Szmujłowicz, freeing him from the payment of community taxes and debts incurred by the kahal, in accordance with the exemption of his father by the laudum of the region of Przemyśl. Czartoryski extended this universal for four years, starting from the 1st October 1735 to the 1st October 1739, Oleszyce the 18th February 1736.
