Decrees on Jewish councils settling a dispute between communities in Leszno and Osieczna

Rabbis and land elders of Greater Poland gathered in the Jewish regional council in Raszków on November 23, 1680, settled the dispute between the Jewish communities in Leszno and Osieczna regarding the conditions for selling meat in Leszno by Jewish butchers from Osieczna. 1) Jews from Osieczna, after the appropriate oath, were released from the annual fee of 70 zlotys, which they paid in exchange for the right to sell meat in Leszno. 2) Osieczna Jews were allowed to sell meat in Leszno every day except Friday. 3) Leszno Jews were ordered to show a document regulating the sale of meat to Christians at the market in Leszno by Jews from Osieczna. 4) A list of fees was established, which should be paid by Jewish butchers from Osieczna to the Leszno kahal: 6 gr per each half-carcass sold; 2.5 gr per each cattle, for the purpose of a Jewish hospital in Leszno. The annulment of a court fee in the amount of 3 gr per item was promised by land elders to Jews from Osieczna, if the bills submitted by the Jews from Leszno did not show the need to pay such a fee to the local landowner. The land rabbi of Poznań confirmed the provisions of the Raszków decree at the regional council in Zduny on 29 III 1718.
