Declaration of Abraham Józef, the marshal of the Crown Jews, against the Crown metricant

Abraham Józef, a Jew from Leszno, and the marshal of Crown Jews, declares against Ignacy Ludwik Nowicki, the prefect of the Crown sub-chancellery in the case of his claim against Crown Jews, in which he charged them with the nonpayment of 1,000 ducats on the basis of a script received in 1739 at the Jewish council from elders through Commissioner Działyński and transferred to the Treasurer Jan Ansgary Czapski. Czapski did not have any financial grievances and promised to return the script, but because of his death he never did. On the other hand, Nowicki had an unfounded claim against the elders and made a settlement with Jakub Icik, the Jewish scribe in Kraków, acting without the authorisation of the marshal and the elders. The marshal attests to the invalidity of Nowicki’s claims and the settlement made with him.
