Universal by Jan Ansgary Czapski, Treasurer of the Crown, regarding the distribution of the Jewish poll tax

Jan Ansgary Czapski, Minister of the Crown Treasury, announces to the elders of the Crown and scribes Council of the Four Lands that during the forthcoming assembly, promissory notes must be issued for military expenses, ordering that Jewish poll-tax be distributed no later than August. In addition, he issues a warning that there should be no repetition of the situation which occurred in the community of Ostróg in Volhynia in previous years; the military tax collector was sent to distant villages where there were no longer any Jews since they had all been murdered by hajdamaks and so the deputies could not collect the sums due. Also, he warns Jewish elders of Przemyśl, Tykocin and Węgrów that they themselves should deliver to the military tax collectors the their tax; they are not to send them to village leaseholders, but should instead collect the tax themselves.
